How Can I Help Homeless People This Christmas?

Not having a home or stability is difficult at any time of the year, but Christmas can be an even lonelier time. By supporting Trinity this festive season, you can be sure that you are making a difference. Every item, or penny, or minute of your time donated will help some of the most vulnerable people in the City.

Fill A Shoebox
We’d love for you to fill a shoebox with quality items to give out at our Christmas meal on 20th December. Simply fill, wrap up, mark whether it’s for male or female, and bring in to Trinity. Boxes could include:

  • Toiletries (no razors please)
  • Warm layers – socks, gloves, hats etc.
  • Entertainment – a book, puzzle book, pens or similar
  • Edible Treats – you can’t go wrong with sweets and chocolate!
  • Think – what would you want to open if this was your only gift this Christmas?

Volunteer Your Time
Whether at the centre itself, or helping us raise funds, there are many events and times we need extra help. Take a look and sign up here.

Have a Clear Out
Christmas and New Year are times for bringing in the new! If you’re having a clear out, please donate any:

  • Sleeping Bags / Blankets
  • Men’s socks (worn/unworn)
  • Men’s underwear (unworn)
  • Sweatshirts / Hoodies
  • Men’s Trainers and Boots

These will be given out to keep people warm this winter.

Do You Need Your Winter Fuel Allowance?
The winter fuel allowance is a wonderful support for those living in fuel poverty. Some of us are fortunate enough to receive the allowance and do not need it. So we are asking, if you can afford it, to consider making a donation from the fund.
Donations received over Christmas will support clients into housing, work, and greater independence. Take a look here at the options for donating.

Fundraise for Trinity
We all start to feel more generous around the holidays! So now is the perfect time to host a bake sale in your office, take on a silly challenge, or plan a Christmas themed event. Everyone will be happy to pop a pound in the bucket and know it’s going to help people this season. For more ideas click here.

Should I Give Money to People on the Streets?
There is no right answer to this question. If you feel it is right to give some financial support, or food and drink, then please do. However if you are not sure, take a look in over 50 shops and pubs around the city for “Spare Change for Real Change” donation boxes. Money from these boxes is split between Trinity and Winchester Churches Nightshelter, to help provide long-term change to homeless people.
