Trinity Winchester is urgently asking for donations to fund its vital services and to ensure each rough sleeper can be in a safe place and able to self-isolate. People sleeping rough are afraid. Many have underlying health conditions which puts them at greater risk. Having poor mental health makes it even more difficult to cope
Trinity is a charity providing support to homeless and vulnerable people in Winchester and the surrounding area. The charity operates from a day centre in central Winchester, offering practical and emotional support to help people out of homelessness and ready to move on to independent living and into employment.
Working with Winchester City Council, St Clements’s NHS Surgery and other Coronavirus taskforce partners, Trinity has developed an emergency action plan in which the charity will support all rough sleepers who have now been given access to emergency accommodation.
Sue McKenna, CEO at Trinity Winchester said: “This unprecedented time has highlighted the positive impact of partnership working. Trinity have experienced first-hand the generosity and willingness of the community to pull together to support the most vulnerable in our community. We are proud to be a key partner of Winchester City Council, who very quickly made it possible to keep all rough sleepers safe and housed.”
Homeless practitioners will be visiting the accommodation four times a day, delivering cooked nutritious lunches and breakfast packs, supplying clean bedding, clothing and hygiene products to all residents. The charity will also offer vital human contact and counselling by phone and through delivering crisis support to those who need it, adhering to government guidelines on social distancing at all times.
Coronavirus is going to present the charity with a new crisis in the future. People have lost jobs, income; mental health will soar, and so people are in desperate need of the charity’s support. Making a donation will help us fill the gap on income caused by the Coronavirus Pandemic.
